If you want to make a good burger, start with good meat. We don’t eat a whole lot of meat anymore, but when we do, we eat bison or grass fed beef. If you need a good reason to cut down on meat, watch the documentary “Forks Over Knives”. If you want some information on why it might be better to eat grass fed beef, watch “King Corn”.
It tastes better. It is healthier for you.
While visiting family in Texas this past winter, we had a chance to grill up some ground beef from the grass fed Longhorns on their ranch.
They are good looking cattle. They taste just as good as they look.
We were so impressed with the quality and flavor of the meal that we had that we wanted to share with you how we made the best burgers we have ever eaten and where we got the meat to start with.
We started out with some hors d’oeuvres that included a jalapeno Longhorn sausage dipped in a honey mustard sauce.
That sauce was a basic honey mustard.
Ingredients:
2/3 Dijon mustard
1/3 honey
Make as much or as little dip as you want depending on the amount you need or the sausage that you have.
Then we moved on to grilling the Best Burgers from the Texas Longhorns.
We added some sweet potato chips to the meal and served the burgers up with a burger sauce from Cook’s Illustrated.
Ingredients:
2 Tbs. mayo
1 Tbs. ketchup
1/2 tsp. sweet pickle relish
1/2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. white vinegar
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
